Homework Directions (before you come to class): Read the two book chapters (Ch. 1 and Ch. 3 below) to learn more about the basic of guided reading instruction and how to gradually release responsibility from you doing all the work to students taking over). Then, review the lesson plan assignment and the sample completed lesson to get a sense of what your assignment will be like. Come to class prepared with questions you have about the lesson plan assignment and/or how guided reading fits into comprehension instruction in Grades 3-6). You will get hard copies of the lesson plan assignment and the sample lesson plan in class on Tuesday. If you'd like to skim the What is Guided Reading Website for additional ideas, feel free to do so. It will give you a sense of how to conduct small guided reading groups while keeping other students learning in your classroom at the same time.
